How to Survive a DEA Inspection Series: Neglected Processes That Will Trip You Up with DEA

Class participants will familiarize themselves with the federal laws and regulations pertaining to Schedules II though V controlled substances that are compounded by a pharmacy and dispensed for a prescription once received from a from a practitioner. The presentation will:

  1. Identify the role of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in enforcing federal laws and regulations on the use of controlled substances used for patient specific compounded prescriptions, especially the actions taken by their Office of Diversion Control;

 

  1. Discuss DEA required records to include: Biennial Inventory, DEA Forms 222 and Invoices, Compounding Records, Power of Attorney, Theft and Lost, Drug Destruction, and the inventory of controlled substances;

 

  1. Review all the requirements pertaining to the writing of a controlled substance prescription for a compounded product by a practitioner and the compounding of that prescription by a compounding pharmacy;

 

  1. DEA views of compounding with a controlled substance for patient specific prescriptions and the documenting of amounts use to compound for such prescriptions;

 

  1. Identify the DEA requirements pertaining to the documenting of compounded controlled substance waste and its disposal.

 

CLASS PARTICIPATION: During the presentation, class participants will be permitted to ask any question pertaining to the subject being presented at the time. By using this format, it will ensure that the participant understood each topic being discussed now as oppose to asking a question at the end of the presentation.
